WebStatistically, Highland Park isn't really that dangerous of a neighborhood. I think we just hear about it more because there are still gang killings there a few times a year. I lived in Silver Lake, and even though that's considered a nicer neighborhood, there's way more crime and graffiti there, so maybe my tolerance is higher.
